About Tom

Tom Hauser started out doing sound engineering as a senior in high school, recording his high school band concerts on a Yamaha AW4816 bought without his parents permission off Ebay. Realizing how much fun music recording was, Tom went to Ithaca College and earned a Bachelor's of Music in Sound Recording Technology, graduating in 2008. Tom recorded over 150 concerts in his four years at Ithaca in a state of the art recording facility using recording gear by SSL, Benchmark, Universal Audio, Eventide, Neumann, Sennheiser, Genelec, and Pro Tools. Tom studied sound engineering with Alex Perialas and Brian Dozoretz, gentlemen with Platinum and Grammy credits to their names. Tom interned in Nashville Tennessee at Georgetown Masters on Music Row, and produced recordings of blue grass, jazz, funk, and rock his senior year.

Coming back to North Carolina after graduating, Tom entered the world of film sound, making a name for himself in the independent film scene in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Mixing and editing in post, Tom came to realize that the music for film wasn't nearly as difficult to write as many of the classical works he played and studied. Tom found former LA music editor Mike Andreas (living in Cary, NC) on craigslist.org, and started studying film scoring in his spare time. By the fall of 2011, Tom was a graduate student at UNC School of the Arts, earning his MFA in Film Music Composition. Guest artist visits from the likes of Tim Starnes, Heitor Pereira, and Kris Carter, plus work with UNCSA Chancellor John Mauceri, former Hollybowl Conductor, made for a rich experience in the only film scoring program in the USA integrated into a film school. Tom also studied with Jay Gallagher (sound mixer on the Ocean's 11 movies) and Wade Wilson (sound editor on Shrek, Madagascar, and many others) to keep his sound engineering chops up to snuff.

In his free time, Tom enjoys yoga, drinking tea, singing with the Palmetto Voices, camping, outdoor recreation, and spending time with friends.  Tom loves talking about music, sound, and life to anyone who loves intelligent conversation, especially over chai.
